Irregular Building Areas in Abha City: Realty and expectation

Abstract

This research aims to discover the reality of urban irregular building areas in Abha, city, and to identify the problems facing them to develop a future vision to solve those problems.  To achieve this research aims, 760 questionnaires have been distributed on the residents of irregular houses in six different neighborhoods in Abha city. Direct observations and personal interviews, also, have been used to confirmed accuracy of data that reflect the reality of living in the irregular building areas in Abha city. As a result, patterns of the irregular building areas were identified in this city. The most important urban problems, which are resulted from each pattern, were recognized as well. In Conclusion, the reality of irregular building areas was detected; therefore, the research divided into three main axes: the theoretical framework, the analysis of the current situation, and the proposed future vision. Based on the obtained results, number of recommendations were proposed to assist decision-makers to limit expending the irregular buildings in future.
