The Status of English language female teachers' Usage of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in the Intermediate Stage in Riyadh

This study aims to define the status of applying the CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) during the English classes in the Intermediate grades in Riyadh. To achieve the objective of the study. The descriptive method was applied. the sample constituted of (78) English language teachers teaching in Intermediate schools in Riyadh during the academic year 1440-1441. Data was collected from respondents through a estionnaire. Results revealed that most of English language teachers' practices are characterized by CLT, but dominated by the traditional method, and most CLT activities that are used by English language teachers are the following activities: discussions, talk about self, guessing, and listen and do, games, and group activities, obstacles that hinder imploying CLT activities related to students are ranked first, then obstacles that are related to the education system, finally the teachers' related obstacles. Results also revealed that most respondents strongly agree with the proposed solutions to overcome difficulties which were encountered when applying CLT activities. The study recommended conducting training courses for English language teachers concerning the communicative language teaching approach, and dividing the English language marks into two equal parts, written and oral in order to increase the teachers and students concentration on oral skills.
