The availability of twenty-first century skills in Yemeni science books for the fifth grade of basic education

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the availability of twenty-first century skills in Yemeni science books for fifth grade (parts one and two) and to reveal the twenty-first century skills that are lacking in the content of science books, and thus come up with a proposed vision to include these skills in the content of science books for the fifth grade.

 

     To achieve the goal of the study, the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. The study tools included a list of the skills of the 21st century and the identification of the skills of the 21st century that are required to be available in science books, which included (7) main skills, including (46) sub-skills, and the study sample consisted of the science books for the fifth grade which included (Part One - Part Two), where the total number of topics reached (41) topics, and the number of pages was (188) pages.

 

     The study concluded that there is a general decline and weakness in the availability of twenty-first century skills in the content of science books for the fifth grade in the first and second semesters. A proposed vision was produced to include the skills that are lacking in the content of the current Yemeni science books for the fifth grade of basic education, and the study suggested reconsideration In the content of science curricula in general education stages in terms of the extent to which they address the skills of the twenty-first century, because of their importance in preparing the modern learner who is able to cope with the challenges and address the problems that he may face in his life.
