Reasons for students’ reluctance to apply to the Faculties of Education, University of Aden From the point of view of students studying in non-educational colleges

Abstract

     The study aimed to identify the reasons that lead to students' reluctance to apply to colleges of education, and to identify the extent to which these reasons differ according to the study variables: gender, college, high school average.. To answer the study questions, the researcher designed the study tool (a questionnaire) consisting of (26) items distributed over four fields, which were applied to a random sample of 244 male and female students enrolled in the applied and humanities colleges. Arithmetic means, standard deviations, and t-tests were used. The results of this study showed:

  • The sample members unanimously agreed on many reasons that lead to students’ reluctance to enroll in faculties of education were: low salaries for education staff and lack of incentives compared to other jobs. increase in burdens and obligations imposed by the teaching profession. The parents stated that theirs children are in professional colleges, and the teaching profession don't fullfil the students' academic aspirations.
  • The results also showed that there were no differences between the average responses of students in the reasons for students' reluctance to enroll in faculties of education due to the study variables: gender, high school average.
  • There are statistically significant differences between the average responses of the study sample due to the college variable (applied, human), and the differences were in favor of students studying in applied colleges. recommendations based on the results, the study recommended: reconsidering the disciplines offered for study in the faculties of education. focus on the disciplines required by the local labor market.
