Keywords:

This research deals with audiovisual translation in the Arab world; its nature, history and forms. The research has also explored the forms of audio-visual translation according to Yves Gambier's division, and has focused on new forms that resulted from Arab cultural and religious specificity or from technical developments. This issue has been studied in a descriptive and historical approach. The research has reached a number of results, most notably: that audio-visual aids have become linked to our lives in various fields. That varies to include the sign, the poster, the computer, the cinema, the television, etc. Also, audio-visual translation differs from written translation in its mechanisms and stages due to the different discourse, different components of the written text from the visual and audio text, the contexts imposed by the moment, and the specificity of the Arabic language and its dialects.
