Evaluating the Teaching Performance of Computer Teachers in the Secondary Stage in Qassim in the Light of Professional Standards

The study aims at evaluating the performance of Computer teachers at secondary schools in Qassim region in the light of some of the professional standards used by Saudi Arabia’s Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC). The study also presents a proposed framework to improve the teaching performance as per these standards. The researcher adopts a descriptive methodology to build the research instrument which is an observation card that includes the standards and the teaching practices of Saudi teachers, the rank of an advanced teacher, in the field of the professional practice. The sample of the study consisted of 26 teachers of the Computer and Information Technology course representing 23.8 percent of the population. The results of the study revealed that the indicator of planning units and learning activities comes first with a “medium” degree of availability reaching 2.179 in the mean score and 0.589 in the standard deviation score. The indicator of preparing supportive and interactive learning environment comes second with a “medium” degree of availability reaching 1.893 in the mean score and 0.475 in the standard deviation score. The study concludes with a proposal of a framework to develop and improve the teaching performance of teachers in light of the professional standards.
